In a report published by Andina News Agency, Victor Raul Diaz Chavez, Peru's
Vice-Minister of Education, informed that 5 of the 61 teachers were fired,
while the others will be suspended for a period of six months to three years.
According to the report, 57 of the teachers are accused of some type of sexual
harassment or sexual abuse act while the other 4 cases involve rape charges.
Among those sanctioned by the Peruvian government is Manuel Jesus Jara Huaman,
46, a teacher from Maria Parado de Bellido School (located in Rimac). Jara made
headlines in the local media after he impregnated a 16 year student and then
offered her S/100 (US$31) to have have an abortion.
"All of the sanctioned educators have been added to Sex Offenders Registry of
Educators, directors, and administrative personnel," said Diaz.
According to the list, the educational region of Rimac has the greatest numbers of offenders (17), followed by Callao (11), Comas (10), and San Juan de Miraflores (9).
